Returns & Refunds Policy

Last reviewed: 5 August 2026. This policy will be finalised with legal counsel before public launch, but the substance below reflects how returns work on Avarius today.

How returns work on Avarius

Every product on Avarius is sold and fulfilled directly by the brand that makes it. Avarius is the marketplace that connects you to that brand, but the brand is the seller of record for your order. This means returns are arranged directly with the brand, in line with your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA).

Your right to return

Under the CPA, you may return goods purchased through Avarius within 7 days of delivery if the item is defective, damaged in transit, materially different from its listing, or simply not what you expected (subject to the brand's specific terms for change-of-mind returns, noted on the product or brand page where applicable).

How to request a return

  1. Contact the brand directly using the details on your order confirmation, or reach out to hello@avarius.store and we will connect you with the brand.
  2. Explain the reason for your return and, where relevant, include photos.
  3. The brand will confirm whether the item qualifies for return and provide instructions for sending it back.
  4. Once the brand receives and inspects the returned item, your refund will be processed.

Who pays for return shipping

If the return is due to a defective, damaged, or incorrectly supplied item, the brand covers return shipping costs. If the return is due to change of mind (where a brand permits this), the buyer is generally responsible for return shipping costs, unless the brand states otherwise on its product or brand page.

Refund timelines

Once a brand confirms receipt of a valid return, refunds are processed back to your original payment method. Please allow up to 7 business days for the refund to reflect, depending on your bank or card issuer.

Exceptions

Some categories of goods have different return terms due to their nature:

  • Perishable food items (e.g. baked goods, sauces, fresh produce) generally cannot be returned once delivered, except where the item arrived spoiled, damaged, or incorrect — in which case the brand will offer a replacement or refund.
  • Custom or handmade items made or personalised to order may not be eligible for change-of-mind returns. Any such exceptions will be stated clearly on the product listing.
  • Health and personal care items (e.g. opened skincare or wellness products) may only be returned if defective, for hygiene reasons.
